2022-2023 VUSD High School Tournament

Tucson Pinball would like to host a free tournament for up to 16 high school students in VUSD. There will be no entry fee and there will be no coin drop required, just sign up and come play. Yes it’s short notice, I just had the idea and figured out the plan. It’ll be planned better next year, probably.

PLAYER LIST:

  1. LIAM F, ANDRADA
  2. JACOB S, ANDRADA
  3. AVERY J, MICA
  4. SEBI C, ANDRADA

Top 4: Sebi, Jacob, Liam, Avery

WHO: VUSD students who are currently in 9th-12th grade. Wear a shirt to represent your school. We will take a group picture before we start, and it would be great to have school shirts present.

WHAT: Free pinball tournament! All skill levels welcome, there will be a crash course before we start just in case anyone is brand new. Most probably will be.

WHEN: Saturday May 13th. Check-in at 12:00-12:30, practice 12:30-1:00, rounds start at 1. You must register to play. Waitlist players will be added at 12:31.

WHERE: Hotrods off Houghton.

WHY: Pinball is fun. It’s also a whole big box of STEM that you can play. There won’t be any lectures (promise) but you might learn something new. If you’ve played before, great. If you’ve never played before, great. Come on out, you are better than you think.

HOW: Email wayne@tucsonpinball.com, message Tucson Pinball on Facebook or Instagram. I will need your first and last name, your school, and your grade. Names will be listed above like this: Wayne S., Northridge, Jr. If we somehow get enough players to have a waitlist, it will also be posted. 2 spots will be reserved for each school, until Sunday May 7th. After that the roster will be filled by the next names on the list.

FORMAT: Don’t worry if none of this makes sense. We will do a group match play 4/2/1/0 scoring, 3 games per round, top two advance. What this means is there will be 4 player groups (or 3 players where needed if we don’t have a full roster) and each group will play 3 games per round. The highest score on game 1 gets 4 points, second place gets 2 points, third gets 1point, and last gets 0. Do that two more times to finish the round and the top 2 players will move on to the next round. Each round will take about an hour, probably less.

PRIZES: Yes. Trophies for 1st-4th and an additional trophy for 1st to be given to the school of the tournament winner. There might be more for random prizes.

Expectations: Only play your turn, don’t talk to or about players while they are playing, respect the people and the machines. That’s it. Talking is fine, just be respectful of the players. If a player has a good ball, it’s perfectly fine to say “nice ball” or “nice game” when they are finished playing. If you play out of turn you will get a zero on that game, so please just make sure you play at the correct time.
